Carville Revives Epstein Questions, Accuses Fox News of Avoiding Controversy
A new report highlights a significant disparity in coverage, as Fox News focuses on the Biden family while largely avoiding discussion of the Jeffrey Epstein case.
James Carville, a longtime Democratic strategist, brought the name of the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein back into the spotlight during a Thursday appearance on Fox News, prompting a tense exchange with host Jesse Watters. The conversation unfolded after Watters inquired about the potential for Hunter Biden, son of former President Joe Biden, to be considered a presidential candidate.
Shifting the Focus from Biden to Epstein
“You know, everybody in the world is talking about Epstein, and Fox is still talking about Biden’s memory,” Carville stated, according to reports. “That’s so long ago I can’t even remember it.” Watters then directly asked Carville if he wanted to discuss Epstein, to which the strategist responded, “I don’t mind talking about Epstein.”
This exchange occurred amid findings from Media Matters for America that demonstrate a clear reluctance from Fox News to cover the Epstein story. The report indicated that on Monday, the network mentioned former President Barack Obama 117 times, while Epstein was mentioned only twice. This disparity raises questions about editorial priorities and potential influence.
Ties to Trump and Clinton Remain Under Scrutiny
The conversation eventually circled back to the Epstein files, with Watters questioning whether Democrats should be advocating for their full release. He pointedly noted Carville’s association with the Clinton family, referencing the former President Bill Clinton’s past relationship with Epstein, who was convicted of sex crimes in 2008. Epstein was later arrested again in 2019 and died in custody later that year, apparently by suicide, while facing charges related to sex trafficking.
Carville acknowledged the potential for the files to be released, stating, “I suspect that they’ll come out. I don’t know what they are, but the story is not going away. That’s pretty clear. It’s just not going anywhere.”
Trump Deflects, DOJ Withholds Information
The renewed attention on Epstein comes as former President Donald Trump faces increasing scrutiny regarding his own connections to the convicted sex offender. Despite previously promising transparency, the Justice Department recently announced it would not release any new material related to the case. When pressed on the matter, Trump has reportedly deflected, instead focusing criticism on former President Obama.
The situation underscores the enduring complexities surrounding the Epstein case and its continued relevance in the political landscape. The reluctance of some media outlets to fully investigate the story, coupled with ongoing questions about the involvement of prominent figures, suggests that the controversy is far from resolved.
