Warsaw Tenement House Rocked by Gas Explosion; One Fatality Confirmed

A gas explosion ripped through a residential building on Przymieniecka Street in Warsaw after 5:00 PM local time, resulting in one confirmed fatality and prompting a swift response from emergency services. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the blast, focusing on a portable gas cylinder discovered at the scene.

Initial Response and Rescue Efforts

Firefighters were alerted to the incident following reports of a significant explosion on the third floor of the tenement house. Upon arrival, crews encountered thick, black smoke billowing from a window and immediately initiated firefighting action. According to a spokesperson for the capital’s fire brigade, first responders were forced to breach the apartment door to gain access.

“We joined the firefighting action and found a person inside, whom we evacuated from the building,” the spokesperson stated. Medical rescuers transported the individual to a local hospital, but sadly, they succumbed to extensive injuries. “Attempts to save his life were unsuccessful due to the severity of the injuries,” officials confirmed.

Investigation Points to Gas Cylinder

The investigation quickly centered on a portable gas cylinder found at the center of the affected apartment. While the cylinder itself did not detonate, authorities noted that its valve had been unscrewed.

“It is very likely that gas evaporated from this cylinder, leading to the explosion,” a fireman explained. The cylinder has been taken into evidence for further analysis.

Scene Secured, Investigation Ongoing

Firefighters concluded their operations and handed control of the scene over to the Warsaw Police and construction supervision authorities. The Warsaw Police VII District Headquarters and the Police Prevention Department are currently securing the area to ensure public safety.

“Policemen are securing the scene to ensure the safety of all people present there. Activities are pending,” the Warsaw Police Headquarters announced. Authorities are urging the public to comply with all instructions issued by police and other emergency personnel.

Further Developments

The incident remains under investigation, and authorities have not yet released further details regarding the victim or the circumstances surrounding the gas leak.
