Warsaw Tenement House Rocked by Gas Explosion; One Fatality Confirmed
A gas explosion ripped through a residential building on Przymieniecka Street in Warsaw after 5:00 PM local time, resulting in one confirmed fatality and prompting a swift response from emergency services. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the blast, focusing on a portable gas cylinder discovered at the scene.
Initial Response and Rescue Efforts
Firefighters were alerted to the incident following reports of a significant explosion on the third floor of the tenement house. Upon arrival, crews encountered thick, black smoke billowing from a window and immediately initiated firefighting action. According to a spokesperson for the capital’s fire brigade, first responders were forced to breach the apartment door to gain access.
“We joined the firefighting action and found a person inside, whom we evacuated from the building,” the spokesperson stated. Medical rescuers transported the individual to a local hospital, but sadly, they succumbed to extensive injuries. “Attempts to save his life were unsuccessful due to the severity of the injuries,” officials confirmed.
Investigation Points to Gas Cylinder
The investigation quickly centered on a portable gas cylinder found at the center of the affected apartment. While the cylinder itself did not detonate, authorities noted that its valve had been unscrewed.
