Tram replacement on line 14

As soon as the euro is whistled, the next construction site will kick off

The track renewal work on tram line 14 is back on track after a break for the Euro 2025 finals. Excavators are set to resume work starting August 4th in Basel at Zeughausstrasse and between Muttenz Dorf and Lachmatt. The construction is scheduled to continue until November 23rd.

This phase of work, announced by the Basel construction and traffic department on Monday, will impact tram service. The earlier interruption was specifically timed around the football tournament’s conclusion. This renewal effort aims to upgrade critical infrastructure for the city’s transit system.

Map of the tram system with lines 14 and 15, shows various stops and connections, including the main train station and final stop Triemli.

Considering feedback from previous year’s track construction on line 14, the replacement bus service will be split into two distinct routes. The E14 line, operated with articulated buses, will run from Aeschenplatz via Gartenstrasse, Monument, Grossbasel, Armory Tunnel, to St. Jakob, then directly to Pratteln.

Additionally, bus line 27 will cover the stops on Hardstrasse that are part of line 14. This service will operate similarly to line 37, connecting from Karl Barth-Platz.

During the work on Zeughausstrasse, the street will be temporarily closed to cars between St.-Jakobs-Strasse and Adlerstrasse in the direction of Adlerstrasse. A detour will be clearly signposted. Cyclists will still be able to pass in both directions.
