South Korean automakers saw a slight sales boost in July, with a 2.4% increase over the previous year, driven by new models and strong exports.

Automakers report modest July sales growth

Five major South Korean car manufacturers—Hyundai Motor, Kia, Renault Korea, KGM Mobility (KGM), and GM Korea—collectively sold 64,614 units globally in July. This figure represents a 2.4% uptick compared to the same period last year, fueled by expanded lineups of new vehicles, a growing presence of eco-friendly models, and robust export performance.

Hyundai Motor leads sales figures

Hyundai Motor sold a total of 33,794 units in July. The company reported 56,227 units sold domestically and 27,567 units internationally. Domestic sales saw a modest increase of 0.4%.

In the sedan segment, the Avante continued its strong performance, with 6,145 units sold. The Grandeur followed with 4,408 units, and the Sonata recorded 3,314 units. The RV division also performed well, with the Palisade selling 6,238 units, the Santa Fe 4,252 units, and the Tucson 4,011 units. The Genesis luxury brand achieved 8,227 unit sales, led by the G80 (2,786), GV70 (2,553), and GV80 (2,157).

Looking ahead, Hyundai Motor aims to enhance its market competitiveness in the second half of the year by increasing the proportion of eco-friendly vehicles in its sales and refining its key models.

Kia reports mixed domestic and overseas results

Kia sold a total of 26,705 units in July. The brand achieved 45,017 domestic sales and 217,188 overseas sales, alongside 500 special vehicle sales. Overseas sales experienced a 0.9% increase year-over-year.

Conversely, Kia’s domestic demand saw a decrease of 2.2% compared to the previous year.
