An earthquake measuring 3.0 on the Richter Scale rattled Bergen County, New Jersey, on Saturday night. The tremor struck at 10:18 p.m. in Hasbrouck Heights, marking the second seismic event in the Garden State in less than two weeks.
The quake’s effects were felt as far as 65 miles away, reaching parts of New York’s Lower Hudson Valley and western Connecticut. While the magnitude was relatively low – the Richter scale goes from 1 to 9 – many residents in New York City and its suburbs reported feeling the ground shake.
Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of damage. Though, officials cautioned residents about the possibility of aftershocks in the coming days.
