Peru Powers Through Early Rounds of Pan American Volley Cup 2025
The Peruvian national volleyball team is demonstrating early strength at the Pan American Volley Cup 2025 in Colima, Mexico, building on their recent success as runners-up in the Copa América. The team aims to advance beyond the group stage and contend for top positions in the tournament.
Following adjustments to the tournament draw – notably due to the withdrawal of the United States – Peru was placed in Group A. This places them in competition with Cuba, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Puerto Rico, with the top teams advancing to the next round.
Building Momentum in Colima
The team, led by coach Antonio Rizola, is focused on improving upon their tenth-place finish in the previous edition of the Pan American Cup. A senior official within the team stated that this tournament represents “an opportunity to improve collective performance and achieve a better location in the continental contest.”
So far, Peru has delivered on that promise. After two days of competition, the Peruvian National Team has secured victories against both Cuba and the host nation, Mexico. However, the match against Mexico was closely contested, setting the stage for challenging upcoming matches.

Tournament Format & Path to the Semifinals
The Pan American Cup 2025 follows a structured format. The first-place team in each group will automatically advance to the semifinals. Teams finishing second and third will compete in the quarterfinals for a chance to join them. Teams outside the top three will compete for secondary positions.
The semifinals will then pit the group leaders against the quarterfinal winners, ultimately determining the teams that will battle for the gold medal and third-place honors.
The tournament is scheduled to run from August 3rd to August 10th in Colima, Mexico. Peru’s immediate goal is to secure a top-three finish in their group, positioning them for a strong run towards the continental title.
