SINGAPORE – In their first 100 days since the May 2025 General Election, Members of Parliament for Chua Chu Kang GRC have announced a slate of community initiatives. These include plans for a new mosque in Tengah, $1 deals on essential items, and priority walk-ins at Choa Chu Kang Polyclinic.
Manpower Minister Tan See Leng, the anchor minister for the GRC, shared these updates on Aug. 10. The announcements came after a morning walkabout in Teck Whye Lane, where the team engaged with residents.
“Prior to the general election, we talked about a 100-day plan,” Tan said. “We’ve reached that particular milestone, and we thought that it is important for us to give an update as to what are some of the initiatives we have identified that we’re going to put into action, as well as some of the immediate low-hanging fruits and quick wins that we will be able to implement very quickly.”
The team, which also includes Acting Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow, second-term MP Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim, and first-term MP Choo Pei Ling, has been actively engaging residents through dialogues and walkabouts.

Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim, who oversees the Keat Hong ward, confirmed that a new mosque is planned for Forest Drive, marking the fifth mosque in the GRC. This development addresses capacity issues at existing mosques, particularly as the Tengah area continues to grow.
“In the meantime, Brickland-Tengah, Chua Chu Kang and Keat Hong divisions will have a lot more prayer spaces during the Ramadan month and Hari Raya, so that will help to alleviate some of the space constraints that the mosques are facing,” Zhulkarnain explained. Residents will also have an opportunity to provide feedback on the mosque’s facilities.
Affordable Essentials and Healthcare Access
Responding to resident concerns about living costs, a program will be rolled out before the end of 2025. This initiative will allow 12,000 households to purchase daily essential items for just $1.
Dr. Tan highlighted feedback on healthcare access, noting that the current online booking system for Choa Chu Kang Polyclinic might pose challenges for seniors and young children. To address this, priority walk-in appointments will be introduced for seniors aged over 70, children under two, and those with mobility issues. This system will also be implemented at the new Tengah Polyclinic, slated to open in the first half of 2026.
Improved Connectivity and Town Development
Jeffrey Siow announced the launch of bus service 872 on Aug. 10, connecting the Tengah bus interchange with areas like Tengah Boulevard and Bukit Batok. Additionally, a premium bus service linking Brickland to Buona Vista via Tengah is set to begin on Aug. 11. These are part of eight new bus services planned for Tengah and Brickland by the end of 2026.
“Our focus in the last 100 days, as well as going forward, is to make sure parts of Choa Chu Kang town are both connected to the rest of Singapore, as well as internally; people are able to move around to where they want to go,” Siow stated.
Dr. Choo Pei Ling, overseeing the Tengah ward, noted that Tengah, Singapore’s youngest town, will see 15,000 housing units completed by the end of 2025. Since May, four new pre-schools have opened in Tengah, bringing the total to seven, serving nearly 2,000 residents. New amenities, including a 24-hour supermarket and coffee shop, have also been introduced.
The MPs are also addressing longer-term issues such as infrastructure development and adapting to demographic changes to better serve the community.
Correction: An earlier report incorrectly stated that the Tengah Polyclinic would open in 2025. It is now confirmed to open in the first half of 2026. Additionally, the statement that Choa Chu Kang Polyclinic *used to* require online bookings the night before has been corrected; it currently still requires them.
