Defense Minister Bnei Gantz met yesterday in the Kiryat Tel Aviv with MK Idit Silman, who resigned from the coalition about two weeks ago. News reporter 12 Yaron Avraham reports this morning (Thursday) that Gantz said three main things to the former coalition chairman, two of whom could greatly complicate members of the right.
The first thing Silman was told was that the resurgence of Eviatar would take a long time. The right-wing side of the coalition has so far believed that the settlement will be populated in parallel with the bureaucratic procedure, but Ganz explained to Silman that the decision of former attorney general Avichai Mandelblit stated that with the declaration of the settlement lands as 45 state lands will be allowed. Ganz claimed that he was only upholding the former ombudsman’s decision.
The second issue that will severely hurt right-wingers is Gantz’s announcement that Chumash will soon be finally evacuated. According to the Defense Minister, all members of the government, including Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked and Justice Minister Gideon Saar are familiar with the matter and he will not compromise because the law requires it. The question is not a question of feasibility but of time.
The third matter was actually considered positive, when Ganz informed Silman that the Supreme Planning Council (MTA, 11A) would convene in the near future, and possibly as early as the beginning of May. It should be noted that the non-convening of the IDF “stuck” construction in Judea and Samaria and therefore MK Nir Orbach on the right stated this as one of his demands to remain in the coalition.
The chairman of the Noam party, MK Avi Maoz, said: “Once again the truth is revealed. Contrary to the illusions that the right-wing Knesset members in the government sold to the public, Eviatar’s approval is not in sight, and the evacuation of the Chumash yeshiva will happen soon. And again, whoever harms the Jewish identity will not hesitate to harm the Land of Israel as well. Nir, Yom-Tov, Gideon, Zeev, wake up!
