LAUTERBACH, Sept. 20, 2025 – A family association is organizing a special day of action in Lauterbach to address rising concerns among parents about their children’s cell phone use, notably on platforms like TikTok and Snapchat. The event aims to equip both parents and children with media literacy skills, tackling the challenges of digital life without resorting to outright bans.

The day of action, organized by the family association Mobile e. V., is designed to strengthen parents and children’s understanding of digital media’s role in everyday life. From a child’s first smartphone to engaging in group chats and online games, these digital experiences are common even in primary school. Many parents admit to feeling insecure, lacking well-founded details about their children’s media habits, including the associated opportunities and risks.”Bans frequently enough bring little,” states Mobile e. V. “But with the right attitude, open exchange and knowledge about the digital living surroundings of children can succeed in media education.” In collaboration with the media educational team of Blickwechen e. V., two self-reliant formats have been developed.
Action day on September 20th
The morning kicks off with a five-hour intensive workshop for children aged ten to thirteen. Held at the school on the washing earth from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the workshop will use age-appropriate language and encourage participation. Children will learn about online safety, social media risks, and how to critically engage with content, screen times, and peer pressure. Topics like fake profiles, chain letters, challenges, and data protection will also be covered. Drinks and lunch will be provided.
Following the children’s workshop, starting at 5 p.m., an information evening for parents, guardians, and educators will take place. Media educators from Blickwechen e. V. will offer a concise overview of current media consumption among young people. They will discuss popular content,potential risks such as cyberbullying,sexting,and excessive usage,and provide guidance on how adults can support children in navigating the media landscape confidently and reflectively.
Journalist and social media trainer Maja Sommer’s insights underscore the urgency of such events. her experiences highlight how frequently children encounter disturbing or sexualized content online, frequently enough unprepared and unbeknownst to their parents. this situation amplifies the call for clear guidance and child-friendly education, which the action day aims to address.

Participation in both events is designed to be accessible. The children’s workshop costs 20 euros per child, which includes lunch and drinks. Members of the association pay a reduced fee of 10 euros. The information evening for parents is free of charge. Interested families can become members of Mobile e. V. to access the reduced workshop rate.
