Russian Defense Minister updates Putin: “Mariupol fully occupied”

by time news

The war in Ukraine: The Russian defense minister announced today (Thursday) to President Putin that the port city of Mariupol has been fully occupied by Russia and about 1,500 Ukrainian troops have surrendered. The defense minister also said that more than 142,000 civilians had been evacuated from the city. President Putin congratulated the success of the operation on the conquest of the city.

This move by Russia comes after a warning from the British intelligence service, which claimed that Russia would try to record significant achievements in the war ahead of the Victory Day celebrations on the Nazis, on May 9, and that this could affect its military conduct.
