Sivakumar, a corporation contract worker from Madakkulam, Madurai, and Lakshmanan, Saravanan from Madakkulam, Kottaimedu, went to repair the motor due to a blockage in the sewer. Lakshmanan, Sivakumar and Saravanan were rescued after a long struggle by the fire brigade and the police. Examination of them revealed that all three had died.
Madurai District Collector Anish Shekar, Corporation Commissioner Karthikeyan, Deputy Mayor Nagarajan and Deputy Commissioner of Municipal Police Thangathurai arrived at the scene and conducted an investigation. SS Colony police who arrived at the scene earlier have registered a case and are conducting an investigation.
