4L Trophy: “Out of confinement, we really needed to get away”

by time news

Scheduled for February 2022, the 25th edition will finally start in May 2022! The expectation is great for all the participants and after a cancellation last year then a postponement this year around 800 crews are still expected (compared to 1,300 in the last years before Covid). Patience, preparation, excitement… but the starting line is not far away.

Each crew has the choice either to wait another year to have time to prepare properly or to leave in May. Élise and Gaëlle however decided in 2020 and hesitated for a long time to leave this year, but ultimately will not leave until 2023. A very difficult choice for many participants.

Here is their background: she did all her studies on a work-study basis, but that’s not the point. Élise embarked on another adventure with her friend Gaëlle, “since Easter Monday 2020, when I saw an announcement for the 4L Trophy”, this humanitarian race in the Moroccan desert. . “Out of confinement, we really needed to take to the open sea,” recalls Élise. They go through the ads and, on May 8, they find their precious 4L. First mission for the two Strasbourgeoises: “Leaving for Le Mans and towing this poor car to Alsace. »

So excited

The 4L rolls, but there is work. However, mechanics is not the specialty of Gaëlle, a school teacher, nor of Élise, a real estate sales consultant: “We didn’t even know how to change a wheel, assures the latter. Fortunately, Gaëlle’s father taught us a lot. “Especially since they had an extra year, with this real-false start in 2021 (cancelled due to Covid-19). Time to pamper a 4L stamped with the seal of education, with satchels full to bursting with school supplies.
