Nairobi: (www.kvartha.com) Former Kenyan President MY Kibaki has died. He was 90 years old. Kibaki served as Kenyan president twice from 2003 to 2013. Although he won a third term, he resigned following intense ethnic violence.
His second election in 2007 was marred by irregularities and violent protests. The UN intervened in the ethnic uprising, which left more than six lakh people homeless.
Kibaki, a graduate of the London School of Economics, was a teacher before entering politics. After becoming an MP, he also served as Finance Minister, Vice President and Leader of the Opposition.
The death was announced by President Uhuru Kenyatta. He recalled that Kibaki was a respected politician and a good ruler.
