Chennai: A five-member team has started an investigation into the electric train accident at the Chennai Coastal Railway Station. An electric train from Chennai to Chengalpattu was reported to have ‘braked’ suddenly when it entered the first platform of the beach railway station.

When the driver could not control the speed of the train, the train left the track and the engine went down. As a result, the derailed train, 11 feet high, crashed into a wall there. There were no casualties. On the walkway where the accident took place, repair work was carried out till early morning yesterday.

Thereafter, electric trains are operated. A case has been registered against the driver involved in the accident in three sections. Meanwhile, the Chennai Railway Division has ordered a five-member team to conduct a full investigation into the accident. Railway officials said a five-member team had launched an investigation into the accident. An investigation will be conducted into whether the driver was careless or did not catch the ‘brake’ on the train or some other technical reason. We expect the committee to submit its report on the 29th. Thus they said.
