Since the launch of the Nintendo Switch, the Joy-Con controller drift problem has gradually emerged. However, the problem does not only affect consumers. The latest news points out that the repair center responsible for handling the Joy-Con drift problem has long been faced with an overwhelming workload, which directly affects the repair yield.
According to foreign media Kotaku report, Joy-Con’s repair is not personally responsible for the Nintendo official, but to a company called United Radio. A former company executive said that the number of Joy-Cons sent to the repair center every week can reach up to 1,000, which brings a lot of pressure and eventually leads to a high turnover of personnel. A new workspace was created specifically for Joy-Con.
While Nintendo shipped brand new controllers to players who had problems in 2017 and 2018, United Radio has since been responsible for fixing them. According to reports, the company’s goal is to repair 90 percent of Joy-Cons sent for repair within four days, with or without new hires.
As a result, this has left United Radio with frequent manpower turnover and a lack of senior staff, resulting in frequent mistakes in subsequent repairs. In one case, a consumer who received a repaired Switch found other players’ accounts and archives inside, and the consumer later shared the situation on Reddit.
Following the incident, United Radio implemented new measures that would require the console to be adjusted back to factory settings if a consumer’s Switch console serial became unrecognizable during the repair process. However, this move also resulted in the deletion of the host data of many consumers without notice.
