Blinken and Austin met with Zelsky in Kiev – and promised hundreds of millions of dollars more

The Secretary of State and the Secretary of Defense are the most senior echelon to visit Ukraine since the outbreak of the war, where they promised the president more military assistance

The Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense arrived in Kiev, Ukraine, on Sunday, and in a meeting with President Volodymyr Zalansky announced additional $ 300 million in military assistance. Also, after the meeting, Anthony Blinken said that Russia’s efforts to take over Ukraine “failed”.

“As for Russia’s war goals, it has failed. Ukraine is succeeding,” Blinken told reporters in Poland on Monday, a day after his visit to Kiev. “Russia has sought as its main goal to completely subdue Ukraine, take its sovereignty, take away its independence – and it has failed.”

The Secretary of Defense added that the United States will help Ukraine lead to victory. “We had the opportunity to directly demonstrate our strong continued support for the Ukrainian government and the Ukrainian people,” he said, adding: “The strategy we have implemented is leading to real results – massive support for Ukraine, massive pressure against Russia, solidarity with more than 30 countries.”

As mentioned, Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced additional military assistance at the end of the three-hour meeting. “We believe they can win if they have the right equipment and low support, and we’re going to do our best to make sure it gets to them,” Austin said.

In total, the U.S. will provide $ 713 million in foreign military funding for Ukraine and 15 other allies, with $ 322 million to be transferred to Ukraine. The rest of the money will be divided between NATO members and other countries that have transferred military supplies to Ukraine since Russia invaded the country.

Unlike previous military assistance, the cash will allow for the purchase of supplies as needed, unlike previous donations from Ministry of Defense databases.

With the announcement of the latest military aid, the total amount the United States has provided to Ukraine since the start of the war stands at $ 3.7 billion.
