Foo Fighters Tease New Era with Studio Snaps and Fan Assembly Call

Foo Fighters are signaling a return, dropping clues that suggest new music is on the horizon.

The band’s latest album, ‘But Here We Are,’ dropped in 2023, marking their first release since the tragic passing of drummer Taylor Hawkins. That album saw them collaborate with Josh Freese as their touring drummer.

This past July, Dave Grohl and the band celebrated their 30th anniversary with a new single, ‘Today’s Song.’ However, earlier this year, Freese announced his departure from the group, stating they were “going in a different direction with their drummer.” Reports then surfaced of Ilan Rubin joining the Foo Fighters, seemingly a swap with Nine Inch Nails’ former touring drummer.

The recent cryptic posts kicked off on Thursday, September 4, with an image of six pairs of band members’ legs and feet standing in a circle. “Foo Fighters Assemble!!!” the caption declared. They followed up with a nudge towards their newsletter for upcoming information: “Make sure you’re subscribed to the newsletter for info you won’t want to miss… just sayin’…”

A subsequent post on Saturday, September 6, featured Grohl, Nate Mendel, and Pat Smear in Studio 606, dated for 2025. The very next day, Sunday, September 7, the band shared a photo of Chris Shiflett laying down a guitar track, captioned: “Shifty Sunday!!!” This post also encouraged followers to “sign up for more important shredding updates” via their newsletter.

The band hasn’t performed live since last year, but they have upcoming dates scheduled in Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, and Mexico through November. This touring schedule, combined with the recent studio teasers, strongly suggests new music is imminent.

It’s worth noting that in December, Foo Fighters reportedly canceled some European dates for 2025. This decision followed news that Grohl had “recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of [his] marriage.”

Freese recently opened up about his exit from the band, commenting, “Looking back, it was probably more an issue with their management.” He also admitted that the Foos’ music “wasn’t music that I really resonated with.”

When ‘Today’s Song’ was released, Grohl expressed gratitude to all past members, praising Freese’s “thunderous wizardry” and reaffirming that Hawkins “was still in everything we do, everywhere we go, forever.”
