We have not given permission to increase the electricity tariff – Public Utilities Commission

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka has stated that it has not given permission to increase electricity tariffs.

Permission from the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka is required under Section 30 of the Sri Lanka Electricity Act to amend electricity tariffs.

It was reported this morning that the Public Utilities Commission has given permission to increase the electricity tariff by 100 percent.

The Public Utilities Commission said no such permits had been issued.

Meanwhile, they said that if the tariff is amended, the amendment proposal will be submitted to the public and it will be mandatory to seek the views of the public.
