The seeded No.1 of the ATP 250 tournament on clay in Munich, Alexander Zverev (3rd in the world), was severely eliminated as soon as he entered the running, in the 2nd round, by the young Dane Holger Rune (70th), winner of the German 6-3, 6-2 in 1:39, Wednesday. Against the double winner of the tournament (2017, 2018) exempted from the 1st round, Rune quickly broke to lead 3 games to 0. At 5-3, after having squandered four set points on as many unforced errors and a fifth saved by Zverev, the 18-year-old Dane pocketed the first set 6-3 on the sixth, with a volley winner. On his way, Rune took Zverev’s serve at the start of the second set to lead 2-0 and even take several 3-0 balls. He took the serve of his opponent a second time in this set, to lead 5-1 and finally beat the world No.3 6-3, 6-2. After having beaten for the first time in his career a player from the World Top 10 two days before his 19th birthday, Rune will meet in the quarter-finals the Finn Emil Ruusuvuori (63rd in the world) or the American Maxime Cressy (65th) .
