Spain Cracks Down on Distracted Driving with Nationwide Campaign

Spain is intensifying its efforts to combat distracted driving, with local police forces across multiple provinces launching coordinated campaigns in collaboration with the Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT). The increased surveillance and enforcement aim to reduce traffic accidents caused by drivers using mobile phones and engaging in other diverting activities behind the wheel.

Local Police Increase Surveillance
Several municipalities have already announced specific initiatives. The Burriana Local Police has intensified surveillance in collaboration with the DGT, while the Algeciras Local Police began increased monitoring for distracted drivers on Monday, October 7th.
Further north, Colmenar Viejo is conducting random traffic controls from October 6th to 12th, specifically focused on promoting road safety. Similarly, the Adra Local Police initiated a special campaign targeting distracted driving on October 6th.
DGT Expands Campaign to 20 Municipalities
The DGT is spearheading a broader initiative, launching campaigns against wheel distractions in 20 municipalities across the province. This nationwide effort underscores the severity of the issue and the commitment to addressing it at a national level.
