Moscow റഷ്യ Russia entrusts the protection of a naval base in the Black Sea to a trained dolphin army! The U.S. Naval Institute (USNI) says it has deployed dolphins at the entrance to Sevastopol Harbor, part of the naval base.
It is Russia’s most important naval base on the Black Sea. All of Russia’s strategic ships have been anchored here since Soviet times. According to USNI, the dolphins were deployed in February, just before the start of the war in Ukraine.
Dolphins can detect underwater objects from sound waves. Echolocation can also be used to identify where a sound is coming from. Ships currently anchored in the Russian naval base are beyond Ukrainian missile range. But there may be attacks under the sea. So the dolphins were deployed to prevent such an attack.
Dolphins have been trained and used by the US since 1959. In addition to dolphins, rice, sharks, turtles, and seabirds have been tested, but in the end only dolphins and California seals are used. The U.S. will also use dolphins to detect the presence of mines and other endangered species along the coast, as Russia does.
