Fuel tax: CM Stalin responds to PM

by time news
Chennai: In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s suggestion that states should be prepared to reduce VAT on fuels, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. K. Stalin. The Chief Minister said that the people are clearly aware of the increase in fuel prices and pointed out in the Assembly that the tax levied on petrol in Tamil Nadu has already been reduced.

The NDA government has not been willing to pass on the benefits of crude oil to the people in any of the cheaper stages of the international market since 2014. The reduction in excise duty on petrol and diesel, which is shared with the states, has adversely affected the revenue of the states.

However, Stalin also accused the states of overstating the cess and surcharge that should not be paid.
