A DuPage County, Illinois jury found Alan Wang guilty of first-degree murder after he fatally attacked his wife, Hongyan Yang, following a discovery of text messages on her phone.
Alan Wang, 61, was convicted on Thursday, October 9, 2025, for the murder of his wife, 35-year-old Hongyan Yang. The case, which unfolded in Naperville, Illinois, highlights the devastating consequences of domestic violence and the escalating nature of abuse fueled by jealousy and control.
The Fatal Attack
The court heard that Wang launched a violent attack on Yang after discovering text messages from another man on her phone. The assault was described as severe, with Wang repeatedly kicking Yang, ultimately causing her to stop breathing. A relative of the couple immediately contacted emergency services, but despite being rushed to a hospital in Naperville, Yang was pronounced dead.
Following a police investigation, Wang was arrested and charged with aggravated domestic battery. These charges were later upgraded to first-degree murder following Yang’s death. He maintained his innocence throughout the four-day trial, but the jury ultimately delivered a guilty verdict.
Autopsy Confirms Blunt Force Trauma
Jurors were presented with evidence from an autopsy, which confirmed that Yang died as a result of blunt force trauma sustained during the assault. Testimony from family members also provided insight into the couple’s relationship, offering context to the tragic events.
Wang is scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday, November 12, at the same court where the trial took place.

Berlin also commended the Naperville Police Department for their “meticulous and professional investigation into the death of Hongyan Yang,” emphasizing that the guilty verdict “ensures that Wang will be held responsible for the brutal murder of his wife.”
