Ben Stokes takes over as England captain after Joe Root stepped down as Test captain.

The England Cricket Board has announced all-rounder Ben Stokes as the captain of the new Test team. Ben Stokes has been announced as England’s 81st Test captain following the departure of captain Joe Root.

The England Cricket Board has officially announced this on its Twitter page. And congratulations to the captain of the new Test team, Ben Stokes.

“I have no hesitation in announcing Ben Stokes as Test captain,” said Rob Key, managing director of the England Cricket Board.

Newly-appointed Ben Stokes says: –

I am proud to have had the opportunity to lead the England Test team. It’s a real pleasure and I’m glad to start this summer.

I would like to thank Joe Root for everything he has done for England cricket and for always being the best ambassador for the game around the world. He was a big part of my development as a leader in the dressing room and he will continue to support me in the role of captain.
