The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported the earthquake’s depth at 10 kilometers. Initial reports indicated a magnitude of 5.8 before being revised to 5.5. This latest event follows a series of tremors that have impacted the province, prompting increased vigilance from local authorities and residents.
Intensity and Impact
The earthquake was felt across a wide area of Mindanao. According to Phivolcs, Intensity III was reported in Mati City, Davao Oriental, as well as in Sta. Maria, Davao Occidental; Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; and Malungon, Sarangani. This level of intensity is generally characterized by moderate shaking, which can be felt indoors and may cause slight damage to structures.
Intensity II shaking was experienced in Digos City, Davao del Sur; Alabel and Kiamba in Sarangani; Tupi in South Cotabato; and Palimbang in Sultan Kudarat. At this intensity, shaking is felt by most people, but generally does not cause damage.
