The accident unfolded at approximately 3:55 p.m. on the Kaunas-Jurbark-Šilutė-Klaipėda road, at kilometer marker 188. According to a spokesperson for the Tauragė County Police, a Toyota Prius, driven by a woman born in 1965, unexpectedly veered into the oncoming lane, initiating a chain-reaction collision with a BMW 3 Series driven by a woman born in 1982, and a VW Touareg operated by a man born in 1968.
The drivers of the Toyota Prius and the BMW 3 Series were pronounced dead at the scene.
Children Receiving Critical Care
The most concerning aspect of this tragedy is the condition of several children involved. “Toyota Prius of two girls and one boy and girl from a BMW car,” stated the police spokesperson. “Another boy from BMW is also treated in Kaunas, it is easier to suffer.” Currently, four children are receiving treatment in resuscitation at a hospital in Kaunas. One child, also from the BMW, is receiving treatment in Kaunas but is reported to have less severe injuries. Additional minors involved in the accident were transported to a hospital in Klaipeda for medical attention.
