A stunning second-place finish at the Gravel World Cup has ignited excitement around BEAT Cycling’s Frits Biesterbos, prompting effusive praise from sporting director Thijs Zonneveld and raising questions about the rider’s long-term future with the team.
The performance on Sunday has quickly established Biesterbos as a force in the gravel cycling world. Zonneveld, recently appointed sporting director, instantly took to social media to express his astonishment and pride.
Zonneveld’s Reaction: “What Has He Done?”
“Oops, oops, oops, what has he done?” Zonneveld exclaimed in a video posted to BEAT Cycling’s social channels, visibly thrilled by Biesterbos’ achievement. He acknowledged the rider’s recent success as Dutch clay champion and highlighted the impact of new equipment from Vredenstein tires and Fast Forward wheels. “We knew that Frits was fine…but that he does this at the world championship?” he continued, emphasizing the unexpected nature of the result.
Zonneveld was particularly impressed by Biesterbos’ ability to challenge Florian Vermeersch and outperform established competitors like Mohoric, Pidcock, Wellens, and Politt in the final stages of the race. “We can only say that we are very proud and happy that he is one of us.
