BarcelonaRonald Araujo could have left Barça and gone to play, for example, in England, where he had received multimillion-dollar proposals. But the Uruguayan center-back has decided to stay at the Camp Nou: “I believe a lot in this club, in the project that is being worked on. I also believe in young people and I think we will win many titles from now on.”

Excited, the center-back could not hold back his tears after signing his contract with Barça until 2026. “I start to cry because a lot has happened to us,” he said in a broken voice, recalling that he had fulfilled the his childhood dream was to become a professional footballer. Accompanied by his family, Araujo has signed a renewal that will allow him to almost quadruple his salary, from the 900,000 euros he has received so far to the more than 3 million net that he will receive from next season.

“Araujo makes us consolidate the project in the medium and long term,” said Joan Laporta. The president was accompanied by the vice-president of sports, Rafael Yuste, the president of the football area, Mateu Alemany, and the executive Jordi Cruyff, among others. Laporta spoke of the “talent, character and commitment” of the Uruguayan center-back, whom he said would allow him to “consolidate Barça’s sports project”.

“Work and commitment are non-negotiable,” Araujo says

“Work and commitment are not negotiable. This is always given 100%. I know I contribute a lot to the team and I feel very useful,” Araujo concluded his speech. His renewal, in fact, was an express request from coach Xavi Hernández. The central midfielder, the 179th player of the Masia to make his debut in the first team, has played 78 games in three seasons and has scored six goals. In the current one, in which he is one of the starters, he has played 39 games and scored four goals.
