Australians Face Death Penalty in Bali Murder Case
Three australian men are set to be formally charged with premeditated murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a Melbourne man in Bali,an offense that carries the maximum penalty of capital punishment under Indonesian law. The victim, Zivan Radmanovic, 32, was killed in June inside a bathroom at villa Casa Santisya, located near Munggu Beach in Bali’s Badung district. According to reports, Radmanovic’s partner, identified as Jazmyn, hid under a blanket during the attack, which occurred while the couple was vacationing on the popular resort island.A second man, Sanar Ghanim, 34, also from Melbourne, survived the shooting.
Investigators discovered 17 bullet casings and two unfired bullets at the scene, suggesting a purposeful and violent assault. Witnesses indicated that two individuals arrived at the villa on a scooter around midnight and carried out the attack.
Darcy Jenson, 27, Paea-I-Middlemore Tupou, 27, and Coskun Mevlut, 22, all Australian citizens, were later arrested in relation to the case. In July, authorities had the three suspects re-enact the alleged shooting – a standard procedure in Indonesian criminal investigations.
One of the suspects was apprehended at a Jakarta airport shortly after Radmanovic’s death. The other two, who had already left Indonesia, were returned to the country through collaboration with Interpol across Southeast Asia, as confirmed by Bali police chief Insp. Gen.Daniel Adityajaya.
On Wednesday, public prosecutors in Bali announced that the three men are suspected of premeditated murder relating to radmanovic’s death, and attempted premeditated murder concerning Ghanim’s injuries. The charges include violations of article 340 of Indonesia’s criminal code, which stipulates the death penalty or life imprisonment as potential punishments.
While the prosecutor’s office has not yet announced a trial date or revealed the alleged motive behind the murder, Badung police chief M.
