Woman Dies After Fall at Jewel Changi Airport, Investigation Underway

A 56-year-old woman tragically died on October 16th following an incident at Jewel Changi Airport in Singapore, believed to be a fall from height. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death, marking the second such incident at Changi Airport this year.
Incident Details and Emergency Response
On October 16th, at approximately 1:55 PM local time, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and the Singapore Police Force received a call for assistance at 78 Airport Boulevard, the address for Jewel Changi Airport. Paramedics transported the woman to Changi General Hospital in an unconscious state, where she was later pronounced dead.
A now-deleted video circulating on the Xiaohongshu social media platform reportedly showed individuals administering CPR to the woman at the scene. Staff at Jewel Changi Airport quickly responded by establishing barricades around the affected area.
Witness Accounts and Official Statement
By 6:00 PM on October 16th, the incident site, located on the first floor in front of Lobby F, had been cleared. Employees at nearby shops indicated they had observed the event but were directed by management to refrain from discussing it with the press, instead referring inquiries to Jewel’s leadership.
Lee Ching Wern, chief executive of Jewel Changi Airport Development, released a statement expressing deep sorrow and extending condolences to the deceased’s family and loved ones. “We are working closely with the authorities to provide our full support in their investigations,” the statement read.
Previous Incident at Changi Airport
This incident follows a similar event that occurred on March 23, 2024, at Changi Airport’s Terminal 1. A 20-year-old man was discovered on the floor near a taxi stand and was also transported to Changi General Hospital, but he was in a conscious state at the time.
The recent events raise questions about safety protocols and potential vulnerabilities within the airport complex. Authorities have not yet indicated any connection between the two incidents. The ongoing police investigation will be crucial in determining the factors that contributed to this tragic loss of life.
