Meadowridge Academy Staff Member Dies After Assault by Student
A Massachusetts school staff member tragically died on Thursday after being assaulted by a 14-year-old student at a residential therapeutic school in Swansea. Amy Morrell, 53, was attacked around 6:55 p.m. on Wednesday inside the dorms of Meadowridge Academy, according to charges filed by the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office and reported by NBC Boston. Morrell, a direct care staff member, and a colleague were attempting to prevent the student from leaving the facility without authorization when the situation escalated.
Prosecutors stated that while attempting to restrain the juvenile, Morrell was kicked in the chest and subsequently collapsed.
