Baby comes out of the corner. 35 years after the first film, there will be a new sequel to Dirty Dancing and Jennifer Gray – Frances Houseman, aka Baby, from the original film – to be part of the project. The announcement was made by Lionsgate during the recent CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Jennifer Gray will return to Kellerman in the new chapter, she said in fact a voiceover, referring to the luxury resort where the 1987 film was set, while sequences from Dirty Dancing were being shown. For the moment there is no other information on this new chapter, although already in 2020 it was rumored that Gray was working with Lionsgate on a new film set in the 90s and of which he was also an executive producer, without for other indiscretions to the regard.

Certainly, the hope of the producers that this sequel is more successful than the projects that preceded it. The TV series aired in 1988 and which saw Melora Hardin and Patrick Cassidy in the role of Baby and Johnny (who in the film was played by Patrick Swayze, who died of cancer in 2009) in fact lasted only one season and also the 2004 prequel, titled Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, it proved to be a box office flop, despite Swayze’s own presence as dance instructor, while it fared better than the musical version of the film, which was highly regarded around the world. Waiting for new details, the appointment for the actress’s fans for next May 3, when the biography Out of the Corner will be released in bookstores, where Gray also talks about the controversial relations with Swayze on the set of a film that later became cult.
