Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan’s OTD rights sold for Rs 125 crore

Amazon Prime Video has acquired the smash hit version of Mani Ratnam’s cosmic film Ponniin Selvan based on the famous historical novel by the legendary Kalki. The contract is worth Rs 125 crore. Permission has been granted to screen the film on OTD after its theatrical release. The film, which is being made at a cost of Rs 500 crore, is being produced by Mani Ratnam-owned Madras Talkies and Laika Productions. The film is set to release on September 30.

The film depicts the ongoing crises and dangers of the Chola emperor’s throne in the 10th century, as well as battles between the army, enemies and traitors. Ever since the filming started, movie lovers have been excited.

Ponniyin Selvan is Mani Ratnam’s dream project. In 1958, MGR tried to make a film based on Kalki’s novel. But he later abandoned the project. Mani Ratnam started work on the film in 2012. But the project was delayed due to financial problems.

In 2015, a 32-hour animated film based on the story of Ponniin Selvan was released. The film was produced by Revinda Movie Toons, an animation studio in Chennai, for eight years.

Music by A.R. Rahman is the cinematographer and Ravi Varman is the cinematographer. The screenplay is by Elango Kumaravel. Elango Kumaravel is the screenwriter of Rajeev Menon’s ‘Sarvam Thalamayam’.
