The state’s power minister has said that there is a danger of the Delhi Metro train service being disrupted due to the power outage. With the onset of summer, the demand for electricity has increased across the country. Power outages have started in various states, including Delhi, due to rising demand for electricity.
In a letter to the Union Home Ministry, Power Minister Satyendra Jain said in Delhi, in particular, that hospitals and metros could not get enough power due to power shortages.
He said coal stocks at Delhi’s major power plants were low and could not supply uninterrupted power for 24 hours. He said that if the same situation persisted, thermal power plants would be shut down due to shortage of coal and the central government should immediately intervene and meet the demand for coal.
