Jayaram and Meera Jasmine Starrer Makal Malayalam Movie Review & Rating: Sathyan Anthikkad is one of the directors who has gifted Malayalam with beautiful films based on family ties and rural life. When Sathyan Anthikkad joined hands with actors like Jayaram and Meera Jasmine, Malayalam films got the best results. For these reasons, ‘Daughter’ is a movie that audiences have been waiting for a long time. But I have to say with disappointment that ‘Daughter’ is not able to live up to the expectations of the audience.

This is a regular print news film of Sathyan Anthikkad movies. Nandan (Jayaram) and Julie (Meera Jasmine) were married at an early age regardless of religion or caste. The only teenage girl is Aparna (Devika Sanjay) who is a Plus Two student. Nandan, who has been working abroad for more than a decade and a half, is returning home to stay with his family after ending his life in exile. The father and mother’s daughter, who comes as a guest during the holidays, have to spend more time together in a house, and minor problems start between them. The daughter discusses Nandan’s difficulties and problems in understanding his teenage daughter.

Nandan’s daughter is similar to a handful of father characters that Jayaram himself has done before. Jayaram’s actor has nothing special to do in the film. Meera Jasmine’s daughter returns after a hiatus. But Julie is not a character as core as an actress like Meera would want. Devika Sanjay, who came as a daughter, is captivating the audience with her performance. Nazlan Ghafoor, who plays his daughter’s lover, is another person who has given a freshness to the film. Balaji Manohar, who appears in very few scenes, also marks his presence.

The frames by S Kumar enrich the view. The music is composed by Vishnu Vijay with lyrics by Harinarayan. The background music by Rahul Raj also does justice to the film. Despite its technical prowess, the film lacks a core script. The film manages to entertain as well as inform.

The film manages to address the problems of teenagers but fails miserably. Problems and parenting are issues that need to be deeply understood and studied in detail. But the screenwriter has approached this subject very superficially. The climax felt like a ‘crash landing’ story going on without a definite goal. It remains to be seen in the coming days whether Sathyan Anthikkad’s ‘daughter’ will be able to satisfy the changing tastes.
