Role and Responsibilities of a Urology Technician
The urology technician role is a vital component of patient care, requiring both technical skill and a dedication to patient education.Responsibilities include performing urinary catheterizations, urinary drainage tube irrigations, and ultrasonic bladder scanning. Technicians are also responsible for reinforcing patient education regarding self-catheterization and urinary drainage tube irrigation procedures following discharge.
The position requires responding to calls across both the St. Marys campus and the downtown/Methodist campus, utilizing a mobile supply cart to provide timely support.
Qualifications and Requirements
this is a designated male team member position. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED and demonstrate previous healthcare education or experience. Additional qualifications include a preference for candidates with a hospital medical background, the ability to work independently, and adaptability to fluctuating workloads. Proficiency in basic computer skills and knowledge of aseptic techniques are also essential.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers certification from either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross is required; if a candidate does not currently hold this certification, it will be provided as part of the orientation program.Internal applicants are requested to submit their three most recent performance appraisals.
Schedule and location Details
This is a full-time position, requiring 40 hours per pay period. The schedule involves a day/evening rotation, with day shifts from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM and evening shifts from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The role also requires working every other weekend and every other holiday.
The position is based in Rochester, Minnesota, one of Mayo Clinic’s three major campuses, alongside locations in Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona, and Jacksonville, Florida.
