Baystate Health has named Abdul Al Hamamsy as its new Vice President and Chief Risk Officer, effective October 20, bolstering the association’s commitment to patient safety and operational resilience. The appointment signals a strategic move by the springfield-based healthcare system to enhance its enterprise risk management capabilities.

Al Hamamsy will be responsible for overseeing all facets of Baystate Health’s risk and insurance operations.This includes crucial areas such as clinical risk management, corporate and captive insurance programs, and the handling of claims and loss management. His leadership is expected to streamline processes and foster a more proactive approach to identifying and mitigating potential challenges.

Al Hamamsy brings over 25 years of experience in the healthcare sector, specializing in risk management, claims resolution, and insurance strategy.He is widely recognized for his expertise in developing and implementing interaction and resolution programs (CRPs), designed to address patient concerns and improve outcomes. His career demonstrates a consistent focus on fostering a culture of learning and continuous enhancement within healthcare organizations.

Prior to joining Baystate Health, Al Hamamsy served as the director of risk and insurance operations at the University of Kansas Health System, where he also played a key role in establishing two successful captive insurance companies. he previously held senior leadership positions at the Risk Authority, the captive insurance company for Stanford health Care, where he spearheaded the development of the Process for Early Assessment, Resolution, and Learning – an industry-leading CRP.
