The promising Nico Ali Walsh, 21, knocked down Alejandro Ibarra with an impressive sequence in Las Vegas.

There is still a long way to go to reach the top of boxing like his illustrious grandfather. But Nico Ali Walsh already has, at 21, some assets confirming his status as a champion in the making. On Saturday, the middleweight won his fifth fight in Las Vegas by making an impression with a superb knockout inflicted in the first round against Alejandro Ibarra. The American sent his compatriot to the mat with a terrible left-right sequence forcing the referee to put an end to the confrontation.

A promising performance even if the Chicago native is only at the start of his professional career, joined in August 2021 only. Nico Ali Walsh won four of his five fights by knockout, notably performing in the mythical hall of Madison Square Garden in New York last December, where his grandfather had distinguished himself more than 50 years ago.

In March 1971, “The Greatest” faced Joe Frazier for the world heavyweight title. The clash, nicknamed at the time “The fight of the century”, was won by Frazier, who thus inflicted his first professional defeat on Mohamed Ali.
