Sportradar Completes IMG Arena Acquisition, Strengthening Position in Sports Betting Data

Sportradar has finalized its acquisition of IMG Arena, a move poised to consolidate the company’s standing as a leading provider of sports betting and data solutions. The deal, completed after securing regulatory approval, will enhance Sportradar’s content offerings and accelerate its financial growth, according to a company release.

A Strategic Consolidation

The completion of the acquisition is expected to positively impact Sportradar’s financial performance. One analyst noted the deal is projected to be “accretive to Sportradar’s adjusted EBITDA margins and free cash flow conversion while accelerating the company’s robust revenue, adjusted EBITDA, and free cash flow growth.” This strategic move allows Sportradar to expand its access to premium sports content, bolstering its existing global portfolio.

“This marks a significant milestone for Sportradar,” stated Carsten Koerl, Sportradar chief executive. “Expanding our access to premium sports content that strengthens and complements our already robust global portfolio and capabilities…we are uniquely positioned to deliver even more immersive, data-rich experiences to our clients, partners, and fans around the world while accelerating innovation at scale across the global sports ecosystem.”

Expanding Content Reach

IMG Arena’s client base is extensive, encompassing over 70 rightsholders across 14 different sports. This includes data and streaming rights coverage for approximately 67,000 events annually – 38,000 data rights events and 29,000 streaming rights events. High-profile partnerships include Major League Soccer, the National Women’s Soccer League, the PGA Tour, and prestigious tennis tournaments like Wimbledon, Roland Garros (French Open), and the US Open.

Sportradar will assume full control of this substantial client portfolio without any direct cash outlay.

Endeavor’s Divestiture and Financial Implications

The structure of the deal involved a complex financial arrangement. Endeavor, the previous owner of IMG Arena, will pay Sportradar approximately $103 million to acquire IMG Arena’s global portfolio of betting rights. Additionally, Endeavor will allocate a further $122 million to specific sports rightsholders. In total, Endeavor spent close to $225 million to divest from the business, a move that preceded its acquisition by Silver Lake.

The acquisition underwent scrutiny from the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), which initiated a review in July and August following the initial agreement announcement in March. The CMA ultimately approved the deal in October.

This acquisition represents a significant step for Sportradar, positioning it for continued growth and innovation within the rapidly evolving sports betting and data landscape.
