Role Overview: Bridging the Gap in Rare Disease Treatment

The Specialty Account Manager, Referral position is a vital link between Amgen’s rare disease products and healthcare professionals. This role will specifically target Primary Care Physicians (FP/GP/IM), Podiatrists, and Orthopedic surgeons, aiming to establish sales of biotech/infusion products and increase referrals to Rheumatology and Nephrology specialists. A key focus will be on addressing the unmet needs of patients with uncontrolled gout, particularly those outside of traditional specialist care.

The Referral (SAM) will collaborate closely with existing sales teams, working to identify patients who could benefit from KRYSTEXXA® and leveraging established centers of excellence. This includes providing account management support to physicians in the PCP, Podiatry, and Orthopedic spaces, focusing on patient identification, disease state education, and facilitating referrals to specialists.

Key Responsibilities and Expectations

The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of activities, including:

  • Developing and executing a comprehensive territory business plan to achieve and exceed annual sales goals.
  • Promoting disease state awareness and the value of Amgen’s products to target customers.
  • Identifying appropriate patient types for referral to treatment.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with healthcare professionals.
  • Communicating territory activity and providing feedback to internal teams.
  • Adhering to all Amgen compliance policies and industry regulations.

According to the job description, the role requires approximately 30% travel, including overnight and weekend commitments.

Qualifications and Experience

Amgen is seeking candidates with a strong sales background and a proactive demeanor. The minimum qualifications include:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree and 3 years of sales experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device industry, or hospital sales.
  • Alternatively, an Associate’s degree with 6 years of relevant experience, or a High School Diploma/GED with 8 years of experience.

Preferred qualifications include experience with buy and bill processes, biologic/biotech sales, established relationships in primary care, podiatry, and orthopedic markets, and experience in Rheumatology and Nephrology therapeutic areas. Strong organizational, analytical, and computer skills are also essential.
