the Birth of “Jovani”
Jovani’s rise to public recognition began in 2006 with an appearance on the reality television show, “The Ideal Couple.” According to the artist, it was the show’s participants who inadvertently gifted him with the moniker he’s known by today. “At that time,getting on television was something like that for me,” he recalled. Participants playfully dubbed him “Italian” due to his dark hair and complexion, noting the similarity between his given name, Jonas, and the Italian “Jovani.” The nickname, born from laughter, ultimately stuck and became his professional identity.
Finding Love on Reality TV
Winning “The Ideal Couple” was just the first step in Jovani’s career, but the show also marked the beginning of his relationship with Simona Simutė. He recounted a especially memorable proposal, incorporating a playful theme. “I proposed to Simutė with “Pinup girls.”
“It happened in Marijampole, at the club “Lūna” – it is very symbolic, because Sima is from Marijampole,” Jovani shared with a smile. “I thought that proposing in front of a whole crowd was a big deal cool. Now that Sima and I remember it… Oh my God. It’s like where my mind was.”
Despite his experience as a performer, Jovani admitted to feeling overwhelmed in the moment. “At such moments, even though you are already a kind of presenter, you have experience speaking into the microphone, even the best probably have a dry mouth, thoughts jump and what you thought of to say, doesn’t turn out so well,” he confessed. The proposal was made even more memorable by the unexpected presence of Simona’s parents and the enthusiastic reaction from the audience.
The interview also touched upon jovani’s experiences with the group “Radists” and the valuable life lessons he learned during that time. He emphasized the importance of avoiding negativity and maintaining respect for others, even in the face of criticism. This ideology was recently tested when he refrained from engaging in a public dispute with singer Ž. Zvagulis.
“If it weren’t for the experience of ‘Radisti’, I probably would have answered him in exactly the same way,” Jovani admitted. He acknowledged that Zvagulis’s perspective might stem from a misunderstanding of the role of a DJ within the entertainment industry. “In most cases, or from Žilvin’s side, peopel don’t understand who he is DJing even though he himself is a former DJ,” he explained.
Jovani ultimately believes that focusing on his audience and delivering quality performances is more critically important than engaging in conflict. “I really like to play for people. I don’t care if 5 or 35 thousand are listening,” he stated. “We each see everything from our own position. When I thought about it, I realized: if there is such a view from their position, is it worth discussing and telling how I do, what I do? I thought I’d better give all my energy to my audience, who understand what I’m doing.”
