# Bubbles‘ of Trailer Park Boys Faces Sexual Assault Charge in Nova Scotia
The actor best known for his role as Bubbles in the hit Canadian comedy series Trailer Park Boys has been formally charged with sexual assault, raising questions about the future of the show and the actor’s career.
Mike Smith, 52, was charged on october 2nd in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in connection with an alleged assault that occured on December 30, 2017, in nearby Dartmouth. The allegations remain unproven in court. Authorities have issued a no-contact order, prohibiting Smith from communicating with the alleged victim – whose identity is protected by a publication ban – or visiting their home, school, or workplace.
According too a statement released by Trailer Park Boys Inc., Smith has “stepped away” from his position as managing director of the company. “we are aware of the allegation concerning Mike Smith dating back to 2017 and take such matters seriously,” the statement read. “We recognize how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved. Out of respect for the legal process, we will not comment further on the case.”
CBC News reported that they have reached out to Smith’s management and legal counsel for comment but have yet to receive a response.
For over two decades, Smith, alongside Robb Wells and john Paul Tremblay, has been a cornerstone of Nova Scotia’s entertainment industry, achieving international recognition with Trailer Park Boys. The series, which began in 2001, has cultivated a dedicated global fanbase, airing on platforms including Netflix and Crave, as well as the Trailer Park Boys‘ own streaming service.
The trio purchased the rights to the Trailer Park Boys franchise in 2013. Earlier this year,the company announced the completion of filming for Season 13 – the first new season as 2018 – with a planned release date in 2026. Despite the serious charges, the company affirmed its commitment to delivering the highly anticipated season to its fans.
This is not the first time Smith has faced legal scrutiny.In 2016, he was arrested in Los Angeles and charged with misdemeanour domestic battery following an incident at a Hollywood hotel. However, those charges were ultimately dropped due to a “lack of sufficient evidence,” as stated by the Los angeles City Attorney’s office. Smith and the alleged victim at the time jointly released a statement characterizing the incident as a disagreement between friends.
Smith is scheduled to appear in court in Halifax on Monday to address the current charges.The outcome of this case coudl have significant implications for both Smith’s career and the future of the beloved Trailer Park Boys franchise.
