Toulon Firefighters Launch Annual Calendar Drive, Supporting Community and First Responders

A cherished annual tradition has begun in the French municipalities of Toulon, La Garde, La Valette, Le Pradet, and Le Revest, as the local fire brigade association commenced its calendar distribution on November 7. The initiative not only marks the unofficial start of the end-of-year celebrations but also serves as a vital fundraising effort for crucial community programs.

The annual calendar distribution is more than just a seasonal event; it’s a cornerstone of support for the region’s dedicated firefighters and the communities they serve. Throughout the year, firefighters stationed at the Toulon-Ouest, Toulon-Centre, and La Garde barracks provide round-the-clock service, responding to emergencies ranging from fires and accidents to a wide array of specialized interventions. Their commitment extends beyond local boundaries, with deployments to overseas territories like Mayotte and New Caledonia, demonstrating a dedication to service on a national and international scale.
Funding Vital Programs
The proceeds from calendar sales directly benefit both the fire brigades and associated organizations. According to a senior official, the funds are allocated to a variety of essential purposes. “We distribute our calendars during our rest time and we do it voluntarily. There is no obligation to purchase and it is up to everyone,” the official stated. “The profit from these sales is used for social purposes, for the Œuvre des Pupilles (widows and children of deceased firefighters), but also to improve the life of the teams in the barracks. Without forgetting the retirees’ association and the sports competitions.”
This multifaceted approach ensures that the funds support those who have served, those currently serving, and the overall well-being of the firefighting community.

When firefighters visit homes, they always work in pairs and are readily identifiable by their official uniform. Residents are encouraged to contribute what they can, with no obligation to purchase a calendar. Celebrating Saint Barbara
The spirit of camaraderie and dedication will be further celebrated with events honoring Saint Barbara, the patron saint of firefighters. Festivities are scheduled for December 13 at 12 p.m. at the La Garde barracks and December 16 at 10 a.m. at Tabarly cove on the Mourillon beaches for the two Toulon barracks. These gatherings offer an opportunity for the community to express gratitude and acknowledge the unwavering commitment of its local firefighters.
