Insubordinate France and environmentalists reach an agreement for the legislative elections

Fluid then difficult, then blocked then again accelerated, the discussions for the legislative elections between La France insoumise (LFI) and the ecologists ended up succeeding, writes our journalist Julie Carriat.

Sunday 1is May, quite a symbol, after a Parisian parade conducive to symbolic rapprochements, the Federal Council of Europe Ecology-The Greens (EELV) ratified a text of agreement, relating to a hundred constituencies for the candidates of the environmental pole. Between EELV deputies and “rebellious” we will now have to talk about the“New Popular Ecologist and Social Union”.

Besides a“campaign parliament” like that of the Popular Union – the formation led by Jean-Luc Mélenchon for the presidential election – the two forces propose to constitute a“pluralistic majority” called upon to acquire“of an intergroup to complete and continue this common work after the election”. Rise of the minimum wage to 1,400 euros, retirement at 60, price freeze on basic necessities, ecological planning and VIe Republic are among the listed markers.

As for Europe, there is no tension, the two parties agree on a long argument which at the same time advocates disobedience to certain European rules and respect for the rule of law. Something to please everyone, even if it means risking contradiction:“To be able to apply our program and thus respect the mandate that the French men and women have given us, we will have to overcome these blockages and be ready to disobey certain European rules (in particular economic and budgetary, such as the stability and growth pact, competition law, productivist and neoliberal orientations of the common agricultural policy, etc.). This can only be done in accordance with the rule of law.”they write.
