Intensification of demolition work of 259 houses in Raja Annamalaipuram despite strong public opposition

A welfare case has been filed in the court alleging that 259 houses are occupied in Ilango Street, Govindasamy Nagar, Raja Annamalaipuram, Chennai. The court hearing the case ordered the demolition of the houses.

Following this, the authorities started demolishing the houses on the 29th. The people of the area protested and took part in the struggle. A few people poured kerosene and tried to put out the fire. This created a tense situation.

Police and officials said the houses were being demolished as per a court order. The public who responded to this said we have been living here for many years. We have the relevant documents. However, the demolition work continued. Today is the 4th day of work.

Following this, more than 200 policemen have been deployed in the Raja Annamalaipuram area for security. Demolition work is in full swing with heavy security.
