The current crisis situation in the country cannot be overcome through new political amendments. The parties must abandon the policies and all come together before working on new projects.
UNP leader and former prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has said that the crisis can be overcome only through this.
He further added that there is no point in having a government that does not solve the crisis and that everyone’s contribution is needed so that we can solve these problems and implement new plans and policies.
This was stated by the Leader of the United National Party and former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe while addressing a May Day function organized by the National Employees Union at the Colombo Municipal Council Hall today.
He added,
Today’s (01) Labor Day meetings are limited due to fuel shortages and the economic crisis. May Day events of many unions are limited.
Today, people across the country are staging protests demanding the Rajapakse government to go home. In addition to the economic crisis, there is a political crisis.
The economic crisis cannot be overcome in bringing about new political amendments in the present situation. By bringing in the 21st Amendment, the 19th Amendment can be implemented, eliminating the executive presidency.
There is no point in a government that cannot solve the economic crisis. Once again the country will go into a state of disarray. We can solve these problems. For that, new plans and policies have to be implemented.
The first is to create a framework for repaying loans obtained from international countries. We need to increase revenue-generating taxes and reduce government spending.
And the financial structure of the state should be handed over to Parliament. The government should provide relief to the people living at the grassroots level. A balanced structure must be created to protect the structure of the banking sector. There is a risk of food shortages in the future.
