München Infineon loses its longtime head of sales. Helmut Gassel is resigning from his post at the end of May at his own request, as the company announced on Monday. He will leave the Dax group. Gassel controlled the multi-billion takeover of Cypress Semiconductor, said Infineon Supervisory Board Chairman Wolfgang Eder.

The physicist has been with the company since 1995 and has been a member of the Executive Board since 2016. His successor will be the current head of the Power & Sensor Systems division, Andreas Urschitz.

Gassel, born in 1964, had been traded as a possible successor to former Infineon CEO Reinhard Ploss. However, the Supervisory Board had promoted Joachim Hanebeck, who has been responsible for day-to-day business since 2016, to the executive chair. Hanebeck has been in office since April 1st.
