Embark Studios’ extraction shooter,ARC Raiders, has quickly gained traction, amassing over 700,000 players as it’s launch last week. A recent update addresses a key player concern, significantly improving teh duo matchmaking experience adn introducing new content.
Duo Teams No Longer at a Disadvantage
Previously, two-player squads in ARC Raiders often found themselves facing lobbies populated by three-player teams, creating a considerable tactical disadvantage. In a game where strategic positioning and firepower are crucial, particularly when valuable loot is at stake, this imbalance proved frustrating for many. However, Embark Studios quietly rolled out a patch earlier this week that prioritizes matching duos with other duos and trios with trios.
According to a developer update, the goal is to create fairer and more balanced matches. While the studio acknowledges that duos may still encounter three-player squads during off-peak hours or in certain regions, the update represents a substantial enhancement to the overall matchmaking system.
What is ARC Raiders?
ARC Raiders plunges players into a post-apocalyptic Earth overrun by robotic entities known as ARC machines. Humanity has retreated to underground settlements, and players take on the role of “Raiders” venturing to the surface to scavenge for resources and complete missions. Thes expeditions are fraught with danger, not only from the ARC machines but also from other Raiders who may attempt to steal hard-earned loot.
the core gameplay loop revolves around the extraction mechanic. Players must locate extraction points – such as elevators or trains – to return their salvaged goods to the settlement. Initiating the extraction process triggers an alarm, attracting the attention of both machines and rival players, leading to intense, high-stakes survival scenarios.
Cosmetic Price Adjustments and Upcoming Content
Beyond the matchmaking improvements, Embark Studios is also addressing concerns regarding the cost of cosmetic items. The developer announced plans to lower prices on all cosmetic purchases, with the changes taking effect on Thursday.Players who previously purchased cosmetics at the higher prices will receive compensation for the difference in the coming week.
Thursday also marks the arrival of the “North Line” update, introducing a Community Unlock Event. Players can contribute resources to a tunnel project, which, upon completion, will unlock the fifth map, Stella Montis. This update will also feature new ARC enemies, a legendary weapon, and additional quests to engage with. The next major update is currently scheduled for December.
ARC Raiders is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox series X and S for $40.
