Konami Addresses Player Feedback with Major Combat Updates to Silent Hill f

Konami has rolled out a substantial update to its psychological horror title, Silent Hill f, addressing player concerns regarding combat difficulty and repetition.Patch 1.10, released today, November 13, introduces a new casual difficulty mode and reduces the number of enemies in certain sections to streamline the experience. The update also includes a host of bug fixes and performance improvements.

The update’s most significant addition is the “Casual” action difficulty. This new option will be available when starting a new game or continuing from a New Game+ save. For players already tackling the game on “Story” difficulty or higher, the Casual mode will become accessible after multiple Game Over screens, offering a lifeline to those struggling with the game’s demanding combat.

Beyond the new difficulty, Konami has implemented several changes to refine the combat experience.According to the patch notes, Hinako will now take “slightly less damage” on the “Hard” action difficulty, and her stamina will replenish “slightly faster.” Players will also encounter “fewer enemies across multiple sections,” streamlining the experience and reducing potential frustration.

New Game+ Enhancements and Skip Feature

Recognizing that Silent Hill f encourages multiple playthroughs to unlock all endings – including the coveted “true” ending – Konami has added an “optional skip feature” for select sections in New Game+. This allows players to bypass previously completed areas, potentially saving time on subsequent runs. However, players shoudl be aware that skipping sections will result in missed items and may prevent the unlocking of certain trophies or achievements. “Thankful to Be Here,” “Grateful for a Worthy Foe,” and “Clear Skies” will not unlock on playthroughs utilizing the skip feature.Importantly, the skip feature will not alter the game’s branching paths or available endings.

Extensive Bug Fixes and Performance Improvements

Patch 1.10 isn’t solely focused on combat and progression. A comprehensive list of bug fixes addresses a wide range of issues, including:

  • Character Model Issues: A bug causing Shu to duplicate in cutscenes has been resolved.
  • UI and Interaction Problems: Issues with missing interaction icons and unresponsive player input after dodging have been fixed.
  • Enemy AI and Progression: Several bugs preventing enemies from moving or progressing events have been addressed.
  • New Game+ Issues: Fixes have been implemented for issues preventing the acquisition of “Sakuko’s Diary” notes and the display of the “View Endings” option.
  • Graphical Glitches: Bugs related to lighting, reflections, and cursor movement have been resolved.

To ensure players are running the latest version, Konami advises checking for version number v1.2.381918 in the lower right corner of the main menu.

Silent Hill f: A Million Copies Sold and a 7/10 Review

released at the end of September, Silent Hill f has already sold over one million copies, demonstrating strong player interest in the return of the iconic horror franchise. The game, set in 1960s Japan, follows Hinako Shimizu as she navigates personal struggles and unsettling mysteries. Our review of Silent Hill f awarded it a 7/10, praising its fresh setting and dark story but noting that its “melee-focussed combat takes a big swing that doesn’t quiet land.”

The release of patch 1.10 signals Konami’s commitment to supporting Silent Hill f and addressing player feedback. Series producer Motoi Okamoto recently stated the publisher revealed three new Silent Hill games simultaneously after a decade of silence to demonstrate its “serious” intent to revive the series. These updates suggest Konami is actively listening to the community and working to deliver a more refined and enjoyable experience for both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
