NIU Career Fair Connects Over 800 Students and Employers with New Tech and Expanded Support

A record-breaking turnout and the introduction of innovative tools marked the recent All-majors Internship and Job Fair at Northern Illinois university, signaling a strong commitment to student career development.On October 8th, over 700 students and more than 120 employers converged at the NIU Convocation Center to explore a wide range of opportunities, from internships to full-time positions.
Expanding Access to Chance
The annual event welcomed undergraduates,graduating seniors,graduate students,alumni,and community members,fostering a diverse networking habitat. This yearS fair distinguished itself with the launch of career Fair Plus, a dedicated mobile submission designed to enhance the student experience. The app provided an interactive map of the venue, a platform for resume uploads, and resources for researching participating employers, streamlining the often-complex process of career fair navigation.
“Using Career Fair Plus for the first time made the experience more accessible and engaging for everyone,” noted an assistant director of Employer Engagement. The app’s user-amiable design proved instrumental in helping students efficiently connect with potential employers.

The fair wasn’t just about quantity; it was about quality connections. A marketing coordinator at Solberg Manufacturing, Inc., and a recent NIU graduate, shared their perspective, stating, “As a first-year recruiter and recent graduate, it was amazing to be back on campus. I was genuinely impressed by how prepared and professional the students were – from polished resumes to confident introductions.” This sentiment underscores the value of career fairs in building essential skills like networking and communication.
The event also highlighted the growing synergy between NIU and industry leaders. A senior customer success manager for Adobe emphasized the excitement generated by NIU’s designation as a Creative Campus, noting the enthusiasm of students utilizing Adobe’s creative tools.
Building Career Readiness Through Collaboration
Prior to the main event, students benefited from the inaugural Career Success Clinic, a networking opportunity with employers, alumni, and campus partners. This initiative was further bolstered by a new partnership with NIU’s Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) chapter, which provided students with valuable interview tips and confidence-building exercises.
“Without the help of Career Services, we as students would not have this opportunity,” said the vice president of Campus Engagement for the NIU SHRM Chapter, highlighting the crucial role of the university’s career resources. “It was a great experience for NIU SHRM to partner and contribute to the event.”

NIU Career services also provided support to the College of Business, the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, and the Department of Accountancy in hosting their fall 2025 career fairs. This coordinated approach ensures a consistent and valuable experience for students across all disciplines.
